In his commemorative speech on Ulrichsberg in 2005 a member of the provincial government, Josef Martinz (ÖVP), mentioned the participation of the Waffen-SS in the community of Ulrichsberg. This was the first time somebody critized this circumstance in public during the festivities. Of course the comparison of "good" Wehrmacht and the "bad" Waffen-SS is weak. Also units of the Wehrmacht were involved in war crime. Taking a democratic self-concept for granted one cannot accept positive associations with the Wehrmacht. Yet this speech on Ulrichsberg was a novelty and stirred up the community, because it attacked the revisionist consensus at least partially.

Das für 20. September geplante umstrittene 50. Heimkehrertreffen am Ulrichsberg in Kärnten ist am Donnerstag abgesagt worden. Die Veranstaltung werde zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt nachgeholt, hieß in einer Aussendung der Ulrichsberggemeinschaft. Als Gründe wurden die Absage der Unterstützung des Bundesheeres, sowie "spürbare Turbulenzen" rund um die Feier ins Treffen geführt.

Seit 1958 treffen sich alljährlich im Herbst Veteranen der Wehrmacht
und (Waffen-)SS, sowie deren Angehörige und ideologische "Nachfahren"
bei der "Europa-Heimkehrergedenkstätte" am Ulrichsberg in
Kärnten/Koro¹ka. Unterstützt vom österreichischen Bundesheer, gehuldigt
durch (fast) alle politischen Parteien, reisen zu den Feierlichkeiten
Delegationen und Kameradschaften aus Deutschland, Norwegen, Belgien,
Finnland, Frankreich, Schweden, Dänemark, Italien und den Niederlanden
an.
