everywhere the extra-parliamentary opposition has taken the iniative with several
different types of action, to protest against politicians and institutions who are
responsible for the fact that, since the 80's the developing countries have been straining
under the weight of the drastic cure 'free trade', administered by the industrial
countries; with more and more people starving and living on the street. the protesters
however have displayed their other value systems on the street, symbolically,
artistically, poetically, revolutionarily, by debates, costumes, damage to property and
dancing on the streets they have reclaimed public space.

although capital can move around the planet freely, people are usually stuck in their
country of birth, and if they want to live in, for example, Germany, they are confronted
by massive problems; unless they are EU citizens, football stars or millionares.
they are taken into custody upon arrival in Germany and put in a central admission camp.
while their asylum applications are being processed, they are not allowed to move freely,
have no work permit, only just enough money for food and no oppportunity to learn german.
for the last 3 years anti racist border camps have been organized, to offer resistance to
these conditions. we were on location and reported almost live. we were also in the
deportation prison Berlin Koepenick and interviewed people there who committed self harm
in desperation, in the face of their impending deportation.

Mayday 2004 Berlin || Mayday 2003 Berlin || Mayday 2002 Berlin || Mayday 2001 Berlin || Mayday 2000 Berlin
since 2000 kanalB has reported the events of the 1st may in Berlin, the most popular
spring party with a social revolutionary touch. every year since 1986, tens of thousands
of young people meet in Berlin, determined to change the world with their participation in
diverse revolutionary demonstrations.
as Berlin's questionable press use this as an excuse to write about 'violent thugs',
kanalB tries to create a true report in which the resentment felt by many kreuzbergers
towards the mindless police violence is shown, and the reasons why every year so many take
to the streets on labour day.

Every year, the anti-racism organisation ZARA publishes a report about racism and racist
incidents in Austria. It is an important source of information for both national and
international organisations and still the only source of qualitative data on racism in
Austria. It contains detailed selected reports on individual cases (made anonymous),
representing the nature and structure of everyday racism in Austria. United Aliens TV has
documented all press conferences presenting the annual reports since the fifth report,
covering the year 2004.

The first Ladyfest was organized in August 2000 in Olympia, Washington. In the mean time
the initiative of some women, whose origins were in the riot grrrl movement, spread out
all over Europe and North America. Every year dozens of Ladyfests are celebrated in the
different cities. Most of them are organized nonhierarchically and without a central
organisation commetee. They are developed out of the local structure and this is why every
Ladyfest is different. Ladyfest is more than a music festival for women including shows
and performances. Workshops ,where the participants discuss aspects of e.g. gender, queer,
sexism, transgender, are essential.

Big retail and apparel companies are in a global race to increase profits by driving down
costs. As they source merchandise from all over the world, they search for places where
workers are paid the lowest wages, and human rights are trampled upon.
There are no international laws that require corporations to respect workers' rights, to
ensure decent working conditions, or even to pay a living wage. In fact, the current trade
laws encourage companies to have their products produced in places with the worst
conditions and the lowest wages -- places where workers are not free to stand up for their
rights and to protect themselves.
Companies are pushing us all into a race to the bottom. Factories with good working
conditions are getting shut down. That means decent factories in the U.S. and Canada - as
well as decent factories overseas. And sweatshops are opening up - in New York, Toronto,
and L.A. - as well as in Honduras, Indonesia and China.
